Winch-Out & Recovery in Raleigh, Durham & the Triangle
Slid off a wet road into the ditch. Sank into a soft shoulder on NC-751 outside Durham or a rural road past New Hill. High-centered on a curb, buried in a muddy field, or nose-down in a drainage swale after a storm. When your tires can’t get you out, call (919) 230-4498. Williams Towing Fleet runs winch-out and recovery service 24 hours a day across Raleigh, Durham, RTP, Morrisville, Cary, Apex, Holly Springs and New Hill.

Our trucks carry heavy winches, snatch blocks, straps and soft shackles, and our drivers know how to rig a pull that gets your vehicle out without tearing off a bumper or bending a control arm. Once you’re back on solid ground we check it over, and if it isn’t safe to drive we can tow it from there.
Recovery Situations We Handle
- Ditches and embankments – the most common call after rain, especially on two-lane roads like Old US-1, Green Level Church Rd and NC-751.
- Mud and soft ground – construction sites, farm roads, athletic fields, the grass beside a driveway.
- Snow and ice – the few days a year the Triangle gets it, hills like Kildaire Farm Rd and Davis Dr turn into skating rinks.
- Curbs and medians – high-centered vehicles that can’t get traction on either axle.
- Flood water – stalled in a flooded underpass or low crossing. We recover the vehicle after the water drops; never drive into standing water.
- Accident recovery – rolled, jackknifed or off-road vehicles after a collision, once the scene is cleared.
- Stuck trailers, campers and work trucks – loaded vehicles that need a controlled pull.
How a Winch-Out Works
- Call (919) 230-4498. Tell us where you are, what you drive, how it’s stuck (which wheels, how deep, nose-in or sideways) and whether anyone is hurt.
- Assessment. The driver looks at the ground, the angle and the recovery points on your vehicle before touching anything.
- Rigging. We attach to a proper recovery point – a factory tow hook, hitch or frame – never a bumper or suspension part. Snatch blocks change the angle when a straight pull isn’t possible.
- Controlled pull. Slow, steady winching with the vehicle in neutral (or steering as directed), until all four wheels are on firm ground.
- Check and go. We look for damage underneath, leaking fluids or a bent wheel. If it’s safe, you drive away. If not, we tow it to a shop.
What to Do While You Wait
- Stop spinning the tires. Every spin digs you deeper and can burn a transmission or bury the axle.
- Turn on hazards and, if you’re near a road, get out on the side away from traffic.
- Stay out of moving water. If you’re in a flooded area and water is still rising, leave the vehicle and get to higher ground.
- Note your location. A dropped pin, a mile marker or the nearest driveway number helps us find you on rural roads.
- Don’t let a passerby try to yank you out with a chain on the bumper. We see the results of that regularly.

Winch-Out FAQ
How much does a winch-out cost?
It depends on how stuck the vehicle is and how much rigging it takes. Call (919) 230-4498, describe the situation, and the dispatcher will quote it.
Will winching damage my car?
Not when it’s rigged to a proper recovery point. Damage usually comes from spinning tires, improvised chains on bumpers, or the original slide into the ditch – not from the pull itself.
Can you recover a vehicle in a field or off the road?
Yes. Our trucks can reach most off-road spots. For very soft ground or a long reach we use extended rigging.
My car was in flood water. Can it be driven?
Don’t try to start it. Water in the engine or electronics can cause serious damage. We’ll recover it and tow it to a shop that can inspect it.
